4 INDUSTRIES THAT ARE PANDEMIC-PROOF

Now that we’ve experienced a global pandemic, we have a lot of insight regarding how it can affect our economy. Over the last year, large corporations saw record profits, while many small businesses and self-employed people were dealt severe blows.

Some countries were able to rise to the occasion and support their citizens with  financial assistance from the government. This can’t last forever, though, and we need to find ways to get our economy and jobs back on track. Here are four industries that are likely to continue to thrive even when the rest of the world has to come to a stop.

Health Care

A job in health care is a job for the future. This doesn’t mean you need to become a doctor or nurse, but they are vital careers to pursue. Even before the pandemic, there was a need for nurses and that need continues to this day. There are also specialty jobs like helping to process tests or administering them. If a clinical job isn’t for you, there are plenty of other vital and important roles to fill in the healthcare setting. Porters are needed to transfer patients, cleaners are needed more than ever to keep things sterile, and there are roles in the kitchens and even in the office helping with clerical work. Every health care worker plays a large part in ensuring the safety and quality care of patients.

Agriculture and Food

Everyone needs to eat, and the food industry isn’t going anywhere at all. Over the last year, many people realized the need for and impact on sustainable food and agriculture to help feed everyone, especially if trade across the borders are at risk. It’s a difficult job as is, but farmers and agricultural workers are vital for keeping families nourished. There are also the workers  in between that process the food and have it delivered to grocery stores. The front line workers then make it as easy as possible for us to bring food home and onto our tables.

Delivery Services

An increasing number of people are needed for the demand of delivering food, packages and goods to those who remain at home. This front line job is vital for keeping people fed and keeping the economy moving despite the situation we’ve been in. From delivering food with Uber Eats to packages with Amazon or making local deliveries around the community, it’s an important job that will not go away anytime soon.

Digital Services

Since most businesses had to pivot to online sales to stay afloat, the need for digital services is higher than ever. Digital and technology companies are thriving in this climate as they find ways to help us connect easier while we are apart. The pandemic has sped up the rate of technology changes in companies astronomically. There are so many roles to be filled in the digital and technological sector that a job in the online space is cemented as a job for the future.

A great deal of people lost their jobs or had their lives impacted from the loss of business over the course of the last year. It wasn’t easy for everyone to pivot their work or businesses to adapt to the new normal. As we continue to inch back to normal, you should consider the reality that it may happen again sometime in our future. If that happens, we can be confident that these four industries will be ready and open for business.
