- Stock analysis should include both qualitative and quantitative portions. The qualitative write-up should not exceed 5 pages in length (single-spaced, size 12 font).
- For quantitative analysis (spreadsheets, charts, etc.), data can be sourced from any reputable provider, though all exchange-traded U.S. stocks and their financials are also covered for free on TIP Finance for participants to reference.
- The quantitative analysis should either be attached separately or added as an appendix to the written report (which won’t count towards the 5-page length count), or both.
- Submissions should explain why the stock is a buy or a sell, the general timeline for this thesis to unfold, and either a specific price target or a narrow range of intrinsic value.
- All ideas must be 100% original and devised by the participant themselves without ANY external help. Anyone who collaborates with others or submits an unoriginal analysis will be disqualified.
- For quantitative analysis (spreadsheets, charts, etc.), data can be sourced from any reputable provider, though all exchange-traded U.S. stocks and their financials are also covered for free on TIP Finance for participants to reference.
SUGGESTIONS
- Review the investing principles and tactics of TIP’s favorite investors, including Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, Mohnish Pabrai, etc.
- Combining several different approaches to valuation is likely more compelling than relying on a single approach
- A good story and written report is just as important as a thorough quantitative analysis and vice versa
- Make use of TIP’s educational resources to learn about stock valuation
- Read our examples for calculating intrinsic stock value for reference
