SUCCESS IN THE BUCKETS

Warren Buffett and Bill Gates were once normal youth like the teens nowadays, but they had a well-planned goal. They were motivated and driven. Entering college is like buckets of bottles of juice and sodas. You have to pick the best – not too cold, not too warm, not too frozen. Just the best. Buffett and Gates chose the right juice and soda from the right bucket and landed on a great future.

Berkshire’s net worth is estimated to be 30 million dollars ran by Warren Buffett, the world’s greatest investor. He made Berkshire and its subsidiaries well-known to all. Some of them are Coca Cola, Dairy Queen, and Gillet.

One of Buffett’s good friend is Bill Gates, cofounder of Microsoft, and is 36 years younger. Gates pioneered much in popular technology-related things. He started Microsoft with his high school friend, Paul Allan, when they were teens. They invested $1,500, and today their annual sales exceed 14 billion dollars. Microsoft is the world’s leading developer of software for personal computers.

Success has made Gates the world’s wealthiest and most famous entrepreneur, but it is not always rainbows and unicorns. His fame also made Microsoft a target of controversy. The popularity of Windows software brought legal challenges from government regulators. They tried to limit the expansion of Microsoft in the new field, specifically the internet.

Bill gates and Buffett share a restless fascination about the future. In the spring of 1998, they came to University of Washington and shared both their experience and wisdom. Young people overflowed the student union for an extraordinary conversation with two of the most successful business leaders today.

Buffett can’t change his age anymore if ever he wanted to change things in the past, but the youth today are at a great advantage to try to change or correct whatever wrong they have done. Also, now is the best time to practice a good habit and maintain it. They just need to look at the behavior they admire in others and look how they can be that person. Doing that maximizes potentials.

Gates’ exposure to computer at his time was very expensive and limited, but it fascinated him. He and his friends talked that they will change it using a miracle advantage called “chips”. Gates and his friends are in the information age. They can use the brain power and not just the muscle power, so they built a company that played a central role in a big revolution.

In terms of innovation, Buffett doesn’t do a lot. He just has 2 functions: allocate capitals and have a group of managers. The managers are tasked to reach beyond any possible financial needs, while Buffett’s job is to enthusiast them to make more money and innovate.

Perhaps, one sign of innovation is technology business. It has lots of twist and turns. No company gets to rest on its floors. IBM is more dominant than any other companies. They had the best employees in the world, but they missed some other twist and turns. They need make sure to hire the best people.

The key square for Microsoft is they go to a retreat. they plan, measure themselves, prepare what to tell the world, and think how to introduce new ideas. They usually take a retreat every four years.

HEROES OF SUCCESS

Gates had great parents who were involved in lots of enthusing activities. They talked about business, politics, and national activities. For quite a time, Buffett thought he was going to be a mathematician or scientist, but it changed when he went to Harvard. He found out he wanted to be into technology. He had a dilemma though, but decided that computers are a great thing to be involved with.

Buffett said, “If you tell me who your heroes are, I’ll tell you what you’ll become.” Buffett’s heroes never let him down. His dad had a good impression of him. His mom taught him life lessons. His professor, Benjamin Graham, impacted his life too well. Real heroes take you a long way and even through though times.

WHAT TO AND WHAT NOT TO

The internet has every kind of information. There is a way to use the internet correctly, especially when letting kids use it freely. Setting it up correctly can maximizes its access. Gates admitted that he’d rather see what his kids are interested in than try and block sites all together. Someday in their life, their curiosity will stir their minds and explore on their own. It’s not about not hearing things; it’s about letting them search through what they want and then discuss about it.

What you need in the spreadsheet is the same. the pc standards is a global standpoint .we need to do allocations to reach to other languages. such as Chinese and Japanese. in fact, our market shares are larger outside the united states. our goal is that every home and gas stops have pcs. outside US, we have an early slope phenomenon. its a global business.

15 years ago, USA almost had an inferiority complex to compete with the world. Now, the rest of the world is looking at them. Computers have contributed a major way in the attitude of the country.

The Americans have great abilities. Just let the resources fall to anyone who uses it best.

REVOLUTION AND THE SOLUTION

Looking at what happens in personal computers and businesses in general, the USA has emerged in a very good position. There are few others such as Singapore and Hong Kong adopting the technology basically the same rate as they are. The education in Korea are proving incredible education in computer. However, there are also some countries with low income. The better way to look at it is instead of basing the income level by what country one person is in, it will be derived by what education he attained.

BEST AND WORST BUSINESS DECISION

Getting into the pool is basically the best. The nice thing about business is you get lots of time. You have to take a big swing. That is a time to put something very significant.

The worst is getting the one last cigarette puff along the road. Berkshire was a cigarette puff back then, but Buffett managed to make it survive and turned things around.

Buffett would change his age if he had a chance. He doesn’t look back, though. He just wants to live longer. He said he is blessed. It’s true that things could have been a lot better, but he plays well what are in his hands. He never looks at what he doesn’t have and complain. Spend time well. Looking back through the years will help think of what can still be improved in the future.

Truly, Gates and Buffett’s buckets are the right wiring for them. The world would have been a totally different place if they picked different juice and soda.
